Magnolia Bridge Lane Closures Scheduled October 26–November 6

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) crews will conduct inspections on and beneath the Magnolia Bridge from October 26 through November 6, 2026, resulting in temporary lane closures and traffic changes.

The inspections are part of the Magnolia Bridge Preservation Project, which will assess the bridge's condition and help guide future structural repairs and rehabilitation.

Lane Closure Schedule

  • October 26–30 | 7:00 AM–2:30 PM: The westbound right lane will be closed while crews conduct inspections. Westbound traffic will shift to the left lane.

  • November 2–6 | 7:00 AM–2:30 PM: Eastbound traffic will shift into one of the westbound lanes to accommodate inspection work.

At least one lane will remain open in each direction throughout the inspections.

Additional Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Crews will also be working beneath the bridge, which may affect traffic on 23rd Avenue W. Flaggers may temporarily stop vehicles while inspections are underway.

  • During the second week, access to the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge will be restricted. Staff will be available to escort pedestrians around the inspection equipment.

  • Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians should follow posted signs and directions from crews and allow additional travel time.

What's Next for the Magnolia Bridge?

The inspections are an early step in SDOT's Magnolia Bridge Preservation Project, which focuses on maintaining the existing bridge and extending its useful life.

The project's anticipated schedule includes:

  • Fall 2026: Structural assessment and field inspections

  • Spring 2027: Development and evaluation of repair alternatives

  • Summer 2027: 30% design milestone

  • Spring 2028: Final design, followed by contracting and construction at dates yet to be determined

Potential improvements include concrete and steel repairs, structural strengthening, bridge deck restoration, and expansion joint repairs. SDOT will also evaluate opportunities to improve the bridge's seismic resilience, subject to available funding.

The Magnolia Community Council's Transportation Committee is working with SDOT to stay informed about the project and help ensure opportunities for meaningful community input as planning progresses.
