Queen Anne Pool Closure
Feedback Requested: Queen Anne Pool Closure and Increased Capacity at Magnolia’s Mounger Pool
Many Magnolia and Queen Anne residents have asked about the continued closure of the Queen Anne Pool, a popular facility for swim lessons, teams, and families. According to an update from Councilmember Bob Kettle’s office, the pool’s aging plumbing system has developed significant leaks, with water loss measured at nearly 400,000 gallons in November alone.
Because of the way the plumbing infrastructure was originally built, Seattle Parks cannot isolate the problem for a temporary repair. The project has now been transferred to the Seattle Parks capital projects team, which estimates the pool will remain closed until November 2027 while the plumbing system is fully replaced.
As a result the Seattle Parks website notes that in the summer 2026, Mounger Pool will see a major increase in programming, including 1,200 additional swim lesson spots, tripling the summer capacity previously offered at Queen Anne Pool and more than doubling swim lesson availability. Public swim times at Mounger will also be expanded, and Summer Swim League capacity will increase at Ballard Pool to absorb additional demand.
The Queen Anne Community Council is gathering community feedback on the closure of the Queen Anne Pool and its broader impact. Take a minute to fill out the survey below. Your input will help inform advocacy, improve communication with relevant stakeholders, and identify meaningful mitigation strategies during the closure period.
