Preparing for the 2026 World Cup in Seattle
Updated May 2026 — What Magnolia Residents Need to Know
Seattle's first World Cup match is just weeks away. Here is a quick summary of what to expect and how to plan ahead.
Match Dates in Seattle June 15, 19, 24, 26, July 1 and July 6 at Lumen Field.
Plan Ahead for Match Days There is no public parking at the stadium — transit is strongly encouraged. King County Metro will add 60 buses on match days and Sound Transit will run additional Link light rail and Sounder service. Rideshare pickups and dropoffs will be restricted near the stadium, with a staging area at Pier 48.
Construction Pause All street and sidewalk construction in key areas pauses June 8 through July 7, meaning cleaner streets and easier movement around the city during the tournament.
Security Expect a significant security presence on match days, including a security perimeter around Lumen Field active from four hours before kickoff through two hours after the final whistle. This primarily affects downtown and SODO, not Magnolia directly.
Fan Celebrations Free public fan celebrations will be held at Seattle Center, Waterfront Park, Pacific Place, and Victory Hall in SODO for most matches, with capacity of 15,000 or more on Seattle match days.

Planning continues across Seattle as the city prepares to host matches during FIFA World Cup 2026™ this summer. The first match in Seattle is scheduled for Egypt vs. Belgium, and the region is just a few months away from welcoming visitors from around the world.
Organizers recently announced plans for free public fan celebrations across the city, with activities along Seattle’s “Unity Loop” at Seattle Center, Waterfront Park, Pacific Place, and Victory Hall in SODO.
SeattleFWC26 has also launched several community resources, including playbooks for small businesses and watch parties, along with initiatives focused on inclusion and human trafficking prevention. A community events calendar is also being developed to highlight World Cup related activities across Seattle and Washington.
The Magnolia Community Council will continue monitoring updates related to transportation, neighborhood access, and regional planning as Seattle prepares for the event. Events of this scale highlight the importance of transportation and infrastructure for neighborhoods like Magnolia, conversations closely connected to ongoing discussions about Magnolia’s transportation access and the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the Magnolia Bridge.
