May MCC Meeting: Understanding Public Safety & Accountability

At our April Magnolia Community Council meeting, residents and business owners shared growing concerns about recent burglaries and property crime impacting our neighborhood. The discussion highlighted not only what Seattle Police Department is seeing in Magnolia, but also broader community questions about what happens after an arrest is made and how prosecution decisions are handled.

As a follow-up to that conversation, the Magnolia Community Council will welcome:

  • Seattle City Attorney Erika Evans

  • King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion

to our May 19 community meeting for a discussion focused on:

  • How cases move through the legal system

  • The difference between City and County prosecution responsibilities

  • Filing standards and prosecution challenges

  • Repeat property crime and organized retail theft

  • What residents and businesses should understand about the accountability process

Our goal is to provide an informative, constructive conversation that helps residents better understand how the system works, where challenges exist, and how communities can be effective partners in improving public safety outcomes.

We appreciate both offices taking the time to engage directly with Magnolia residents and businesses on these important issues.
