Urgent Action Needed on HB 1110 & SB 5190

We have another time sensitive request!

HB 1110 was voted on this morning (25 Yea, five Nay, and one excused) in Olympia, and SB 5190 is currently in committee.  Magnolia Community Council has serious concerns about how these bills are written, and we do not believe it will result in the intended outcome of increased affordable housing.

Our two major concerns:

  1. HB 1110 and SB 5190 refer to Middle Housing (i.e., new townhouses and row-houses that are not affordable to mostas opposed to Affordable Housing.  The bill will add additional density, but there is no guarantee that this density will result in affordable housing.

  2. The bills do not address the storm and sanitary infrastructure needs that are required with the amount of additional density our city will need.

We want the housing affordability crisis resolvedThe Seattle Times also believes these bills will not result in the intended outcome to increase affordable homes.

Please take a two minutes this weekend to express your concerns about HB 1110 and SB 5190, and urge our elected officials to make the needed changes to address Affordable Housing needs and supporting Infrastructure.

  1. Follow these links for HB 1110 and SB 5190 and select Comment on Bill

  2. Enter your address for verification

  3. Select ALL District Representatives to receive your comments

  4. Enter Oppose

  5. Suggested Comments:  I support the plan for increased affordable housing production, but middle housing (i.e., new townhouses and row-houses) are not affordable to most. This bill does not address the storm and sanitary infrastructure needs that are required with the amount of additional density our city will need.

Thanks for your continued advocacy for our neighborhood.
